Best 2012 Fantasy Football Best Games at Each Position

How did your 2012 Fantasy Football season go!?! I’m going to guess it went good – especially since you’re still reading about Fantasy Football in January. Well, Fantasy Football also went good for these guys – or at least, it went good for them for at least one week. I took a look back over the season to see which players had the best single game Fantasy outputs at each position.   Best Games of 2012 Fantasy Football   Top 5 Quarterbacks 1. Matt Schaub, HOU vs. JAC – Week 11 – 44.4 Fantasy pts 527 passing yards, 5 TD passes, 2 INT 2. Aaron Rodgers, GB at HOU – Week 6 – 42.6 338 passing yards, 6 TD passes, 17 rushing yards This was part of a six-game stretch for Rodgers where he threw 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions. There are just 13 other QBs with more than 22 TD passes over the entire 16-game season. 3. Russell Wilson, SEA at BUF – Week 15 — 41.5 205 passing yards, 1 TD pass, 92 rushing yards, 3 rushing TDs 4. Cam Newton, CAR at PHI – Week 12 – 40.5 306 passing yards, 2 TD passes, 52 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs 5. Cam Newton, CAR vs. ATL – Week 14 — 40 287 passing yards, 2 TD passes, 116 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD Notes: I would have expected one or two repeats among the defenses that gave up these huge games … Those Fantasy Football owners that drafted Newton were likely beside themselves after five TD passes and eight INTs after seven games. But he definitely came through late in the season and in the playoffs.     Top 5 Running Backs 1. Doug Martin, TB at OAK – Week 9 – 51.2 Fantasy pts 251 rushing yards, 4 rushing TDs, 4 rec, 21 receiving yards This was the third-best rookie rushing effort in NFL history, behind just Adrian Peterson (2007) and DeMarco Murray (2011). His two-game effort over Weeks 8 & 9 (486 yards from scrimmage) is the best since Walter Payton in 1977. I expound a little more on Doug Martin’s big game here. 2. Alfred Morris, WAS vs. DAL – Week 17...

2012 Fantasy Football Awards: Fantasy Football MVP

Outside of counting up and spending your winnings, the best thing about the end of the Fantasy Football season is looking back and judging. While the 2012 Fantasy Football Awards officially mean very little, it’s always nice to look back before you look forward. And in keeper leagues, it’s always nice to taunt fellow owners by pointing out your award-winning players in the offseason. Over the next week, I’ll be announcing all of the 2012 Fantasy Football Award winners, including Fantasy Rookie of the Year, Fantasy Breakout Player of the Year, Fantasy Bust of the Year, Fantasy Waiver-Wire Wonderboy, and Fantasy Comeback Player of the Year.   2012 Fantasy Football Awards 2012 Fantasy Football MVP – LaDainian Tomlinson Trophy This award means different things to different people. For me, it means the player that meant more to his Fantasy owners than any other player. It could be the top overall pick, and it could be a 10th-rounder. Either way, Fantasy teams that owned the Fantasy Player of the Year usually found themselves high in the standings by Week 13. Our Fantasy Football MVP trophy is named after LaDainian Tomlinson, who was one of the most dominant Fantasy players in NFL history. In 2006, Tomlinson rushed for 1,815 yards, and 28 touchdowns, with 56 receptions for 508 yards and three touchdowns for a total of 429 Fantasy points. That’s considered the greatest Fantasy season by any player (Tom Brady scored more in 2007, but his Fantasy value at quarterback was less valuable than L.T. at running back.)   2012 Fantasy Football MVP Nominees   Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints 5,177 passing yards, 43 passing TDs, 19 INT, 1 rushing TD After a tumultuous offseason that had many Fantasy owners, including myself, a little leery of drafting him too early because of uncertainty surrounding his team, Brees went out and outscored every Fantasy Football player in the NFL. Over the past two seasons, he has thrown for an NFL high 10,653 yards, with 89 touchdown passes.   Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis Colts 4,659 passing yards, 37 passing TDs, 11 INT After scoring zero Fantasy points in 2011, due to several surgeries on his neck, Manning became the biggest free agent...

Is RG3 the Best Fantasy Rookie QB Ever?

Is RG3 the Best Fantasy Rookie QB Ever?

Robert Griffin III played well in his second-to-last regular season game of his rookie year, one week after he sprained his LCL, but was it enough to help you in your Fantasy Football playoffs? As he continues to rip off one huge game after another, it dawned on me that he has to be approaching some of the top rookie quarterback efforts in NFL history. My site has devoted several posts to 2012 Fantasy Football rookies this season, and his ascension up the record books is impressive. Is RG3 the best Fantasy rookie QB ever? Let’s see how he’s doing with one week left. Wearing a brace against the Eagles, RGIII might have been annoyed, but not to the point of hurting his stats very much. “It didn’t slow me down by any means,” he said. “I felt like myself out there. That’s why they call me quarterback. It’s not abbreviated with running quarterback. I have to throw the ball and assist guys by handing off.” Missing Week 15, however, likely hurt his chances of passing up Cam Newton for the title of “Best Fantasy Rookie QB Ever.” As far as Week 16 went, Griffin still produced before (and a little after) his injury. He threw for 198 yards, two touchdowns, an interception and four rushing yards. He still has just five interceptions, which is three fewer than Tom Brady for the lowest total among all QBs with at least 225 pass attempts (30 players). Despite missing a game last week, and part of the previous week, RG3 still ranks among the top six Fantasy quarterbacks in most formats. If you’re already thinking about the 2013 Fantasy Football season, check out our recent articles dealing with next season: 2013 Fantasy Football Mock Draft — First Round: Which 12 players are likely first rounders next season? 2013 Fantasy Football Mock Draft — Second Round: This is where I think RG3 gets drafted next season, right around when Cam Newton goes, also. Projected first round for 2013 Fantasy rookies from DynastyLeagueFootball Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins Stats through Week 16: 3,104 passing yards, 20 pass TDs, 5 INT, 763 rushing yards, 6 rush TDs – 306 Fantasy pts Projected stats after...

Mind Of The Yeti: Kick Balls, Kiss Balls and Pitched Balls

The following random thoughts have been provided by Yeti Vedder. He writes for us from time to time and downloads his thoughts for our amusement. The views expressed in this article are those of the Yeti and do not necessarily represent the views of, and should not be attributed to David Gonos — especially when he talks all sweet and fluffy about any Boston team. However, any direct shots he takes at New York teams have my full support. Enjoy! *The Patriots-49ers game sort of felt like a Superbowl preview, didn’t it? I can’t see any team in the AFC beating the Patriots in the playoffs. They manhandled both Denver and Houston, and Baltimore isn’t the same team due to injuries and Joe Flacco. *I love how everyone is on the Denver bandwagon. Who has Denver beat this year? They play in the WORST division in football and they played a Baltimore team that had just fired their Offensive Coordinator and has been playing horrible. They better win out, because if they play Wild Card Weekend I say they lose due to playing a team with a winning record! *I love watching the Seattle Seahawks. There I said it. They have no big names. They have no reason to be winning the way they are winning. Russell Wilson is one of the best under the radar stories this year. RGIII and Luck get all the credit, but Russell the Love Muscle’s team has been just as good! *Easy way to get some this weekend??? Mistletoe belt. Rules are rules!!! *If you are in your Fantasy Football Finals this week best of luck to you. There is a small part of me that hates you, but best of luck! *The Lakers can’t catch a break from the media. They lose games and they absolutely suck. They win 3 straight and they should have won by more?!? A win, is a win, is a win!!! With Pau and Nash coming back I think this team will start to play better ball and come into their own. NBA basketball doesn’t really start until the playoffs anyways. *If I am Tim Tebow I am just completely disgusted with the way I was treated in New...

Week 16 Fantasy Football Rankings: RB, K, DST

Running backs are your lifeblood in the Fantasy Football playoffs and since you are either in your championship game or in the final four, you need to confirm your lineup with our Week 16 Fantasy Football RB Rankings. Sure, kickers and defenses are valuable too, yadayadayada. But it’s your running backs that you want to make sure you hit the mark on. I posted the first round of a 2013 Fantasy Football Mock Draft and I plan on updating it through the rest of the NFL season and throughout the playoffs. And the Week 16 Fantasy Football QB, WR and TE Rankings here were posted on Wednesday. This week’s NFL schedule is not like the other weeks. There’s no Thursday night game and there’s no Monday night game. There is, however, a Saturday night game! Sooo I’ve got that going for me … which is nice. Week 16 NFL Schedule Atlanta at Detroit Washington at Philadelphia Minnesota at Houston Indianapolis at Kansas City Buffalo at Miami Cincinnati at Pittsburgh St. Louis at Tampa Bay New Orleans at Dallas Tennessee at Green Bay New England at Jacksonville Oakland at Carolina San Diego at N.Y. Jets Cleveland at Denver N.Y. Giants at Baltimore Chicago at Arizona San Francisco at Seattle Week 16 Fantasy Football Rankings These rankings are for non-PPR leagues, with four points for passing touchdowns. The good guys over at Four-Downs.com supply our rankings tool for each week, so we’re happy to use it and give them a shout-out! Also, the rankings tool prevents me from adding Lions RB Mikel LeShoure, so understand that I have him 27th this week. And Redskins kicker Kai Forbath is ranked 10th, but he’s also not in the tool. Again, I posted the Week 15 Fantasy Football QB, WR and TE Rankings on Wednesday. Meanwhile, enjoy our Week 16 Fantasy Football RB Rankings! You will need Flash in order to view the rankings, which means you may not be able to view it from your smartphone. Week 16 Fantasy Football Rankings: QB, WR, TE

You’re ohhhhhh so close to sitting atop your Fantasy league as the 2012 champion. You’re either in the Fantasy Football championship game or you are at least in the Final Four. I guess there’s even a possibility you’re playing for third place in a consolation game, like I am in one league …. Stupid Dennis Pitta!!! Confirm your lineup against these Week 16 Fantasy Football Rankings and take home the trophy! At this point, you don’t want to take any huge chances — unless you have no choice. In other words, if Robert Griffin III becomes a gametime decision once again, then think about passing him up and grabbing someone off the waiver wire last second. Figure that the worst case scenario there is — RG3 would play and be great, but you’d still play a lesser QB that played average. But if you start RG3 and he bails after a couple series, you’re doomed. It’s all about being risk averse in the championship game. There is no tomorrow! Speaking of Griffin, his chances of becoming the best Fantasy rookie QB ever are becoming slimmer and slimmer now. I’ve updated his stats and projections through the season, and he looks like he’s going to come up short — unless he blows up in these final two games! Even so, he is definitely still one of the best rookies in Fantasy history. Before the season started, I discussed the top 30 rookies in 2012 and how I thought they would do. There are some hits (Doug Martin!) and some misses (Isaiah Pead!), but you might find the read enjoyable as we get ready for the 2012-13 offseason. Speaking of rookies, it’s almost time to start thinking about next season! So take a look at the 2013 Fantasy Rookies Draft: Rd 1 for Dynasty Leagues. The running back corps is MUCH thinner than in recent years, especially now that Marcus Lattimore’s career is in jeopardy. And finally, I posted the first round of a 2013 Fantasy Football Mock Draft, so take a look at that when you get a chance, and start planning on dominating a year early! I will post our Week 16 Fantasy Football RB Rankings, along with the...

Week 15 Fantasy Football Rankings: RB, K, DST

Heading either into the second round of your playoffs, or into the first week of your playoffs (still doing the Week 17 championship thing, eh?), these are the days that Fantasy Football owners begin to wish they drafted a stud running back in the first round. Many of them still pepper the upper tier of our Week 15 Fantasy Football RB Rankings. Granted, some aren’t around these days, like LeSean McCoy, but for the most part, you’d kill to have players like Arian Foster, Ray Rice, Marshawn Lynch and even Chris Johnson and Matt Forte. Sure, Darren McFadden and Ryan Mathews were swings/misses, but the odds are in your favor if you took an RB in the first round. Next summer, try to remember this feeling — and draft “Beast Mode” and never look back. I posted the first round of a 2013 Fantasy Football Mock Draft that you might find interesting! I posted the Week 15 Fantasy Football QB, WR and TE Rankings here on Wednesday. Week 15 NFL Schedule Cincinnati at Philadelphia N.Y. Giants at Atlanta Minnesota at St. Louis Tampa Bay at New Orleans Jacksonville at Miami Indianapolis at Houston Washington at Cleveland Green Bay at Chicago Denver at Baltimore Carolina at San Diego Seattle at Buffalo Detroit at Arizona Kansas City at Oakland Pittsburgh at Dallas San Francisco at New England N.Y.
