2012 Fantasy Quarterback Rankings

It’s safe to say that the 2012 Fantasy quarterback rankings have never looked as strong as they are this year. It’s very likely that you’re going to see TWO quarterbacks taken in the first round of your draft, and then see three more quarterbacks taken in the second round. We’re coming off of the most successful rookie season by a quarterback in NFL history. Cam Newton set at least 10 different NFL records — and his counterpart, Andy Dalton, had the seventh-best rookie season by a QB. Not one, but TWO quarterbacks broke Dan Marino’s 17-year NFL record for passing yards in a season. Heck, FOUR quarterbacks from last season now rank in the top six in NFL history in single-season passing yards. Six different QBs now rank in the top 20  in NFL history in single-season passing yards. Three quarterbacks threw for MORE than 5,000 yards and three quarterbacks threw for MORE than 40 touchdowns. This offseason, we saw one of the most anticipated college QB prospects since John Elway get drafted by a team that turned around and released a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback. NFL Preseason Week 1: Fantasy Football Player News

We finally get to stop talking about what rookie did what in college and what this player can do with his new team. With preseason action upon us, we can finally start talking about performances. Let’s take a look at Fantasy Football player news according to what happened this weekend and how it affects your Fantasy drafts.   Fantasy Football Player News: New Teams Cedric Benson, RB, GB: Looks like the Packers will be locking up the free-agent running back this weekend. This is obviously bad news for James Starks’ Fantasy value, as well as the sleeper chances of RB Alex Green. Consider Benson an RB3 and Starks as an RB4 for now. Peyton Manning, RB, DEN: The biggest free agent to hit the market in 20 years looked good in limited action with his new team. The real news here is that his throws were crisp despite a year away from the game with a neck injury. The risk is still there, and I’m still not looking to draft him as a Top 10 Fantasy quarterback. That likely means I won’t own him this year. Terrell Owens, WR, SEA: Your draftmates could look at this news two ways – 1. You might have a guy in your league that drafts based on numbers from 2008 that takes T.O. in the middle rounds. 2. Your owners are quick to mock, making ballsy picks on players like Owens a risky endeavor. That means he could be yours in the late rounds, which is an appropriate spot to take him.   Fantasy Football Player News: Rookies Robert Griffin III, QB, WAS: His first action in the NFL went well, and he led the Redskins on a first-quarter, 80-yard scoring drive against Buffalo. He even threw a 20-yard TD pass to WR Pierre Garcon. Great to see he didn’t have a disastrous start, which can do some damage to a young player’s confidence, but this isn’t enough to make me draft RG3 as a Fantasy starter just yet. Ryan Tannehill, QB, MIA: Not a bad first effort from the Texas A&M product. David Garrard is out a couple weeks after knee surgery, so Tannehill and Matt Moore will see more preseason action...
