Week 16 Start or Sit

If you are still alive, I am willing bet you either had Jamaal Charles or at least didn’t play against him after his historic Week 15 outburst. A lot of people are in their championship this week, while some may still have a week left. It’s time to earn that championship trophy. so let’s take a look at the Week 16 matchups. Week 16 Start or Sit    Denver Broncos at Houston Texans Wes Welker still has not been cleared to practice as of Wednesday his status is up in the air for Sunday. When he missed last Thursday’s game, Andre Caldwell filled in and played well. If Welker is out again, expect them to utilize Caldwell in the slot role again and put up similar number to...

Week 15 Start or Sit

If you’re still reading our Week 15 Fantasy Start or Sit column, this is good news for your Fantasy season! It’s do or die time for Fantasy Football owners right now. Will you be back reading this column next week!?! One bad move and you could be looking forward to August of 2014, and I hope I can help you prevent that from happening.   Week 15 Fantasy Start or Sit   San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos Thursday 8:25 pm Ryan Mathews has been on a roll lately and has been taking more and more snaps from Danny Woodhead. I think Mathews continues to be a solid RB2. Keenan Allen has been great recently as well and is a borderline WR1. The return of Eddie Royal meant death for Ladarius Green’s Fantasy value and it appears it is time to let go of the hope that he could be a top 10 play for the rest of the way. Wes Welker suffered his second concussion in recent weeks and as of now it does not appear he will play Thursday night. His absence means a bigger role for Jacob Tamme who played 45 of 46 snaps after Welker left the game last week mostly playing the slot. If you are in need of a tight end Tamme can be a good yardage play but I expect Julius Thomas to be the tight end with a chance to score. Knowshon Moreno is still the back to own but Montee Ball keeps getting more and more work and could be a flex play for this week if he can manage to get a touchdown. New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins 1:00 pm Shane Vereen had a big day through the air while the Patriots were trailing in the second half. The loss of Rob Gronkowski means more work for him as well as teammate Julian Edelman who played all 83 of the Patriots offensive snaps. Danny Amendola actually played the third most snaps of Patriot receivers playing only 62 snaps in mostly 3 wide receiver sets. The loss of Gronkowski could lead to some more snaps but he is at least third in line for passing targets in this offense....

Looking Ahead: Week 15 Waiver Wire Finds

Looking Ahead: Week 15 Waiver Wire Finds

If you’re lucky enough to still be interested in Fantasy this time of year, I applaud you. If you’re skilled enough to have earned a bye week this week, the players below could offer some backup off of the Week 15waiver wire. Picking those players up now, before the two winners of the Week 14 playoff games get a chance, is a smart move. In our 12-man PPR league hosted by my college friend Andy, he set up playoff brackets so that the two teams with this best record (as long as they aren’t in the same division) will get a bye on Week 14. I can proudly say that at 9-4, I have earned a bye this week and an automatic bid to the semi-finals. Although, my team has a great starting lineup with guys like Russell Wilson, Matt Forte, Dez Bryant and Jimmy Graham getting hot early and staying hot, I would like to bolster my bench in order to have a plug-and-play option if the injury bug bites. While it may seem easier with fewer owners scavenging the pool to pick up a fill-in, the truth is that owners in playoff contention will be unloading bench players and looking for home-run threats. The key to a successful Fantasy playoff run is to have the foresight to eye upcoming matchups when it matters most. Week 15 Waiver Wire Early Pickups Here are my Week 15 waiver wire pickups assuming you’re one of the few owners who have a bye this week. Owned percentages are from ESPN.com leagues. Montee Ball vs. SD (73.5% Owned) I think Ball is the best RB handcuff in the NFL right now. If you are a Knowshon Moreno owner, you are making room on your bench for him by dropping names like Trent Richardson, Willis McGahee, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis. If you aren’t a Moreno owner, look to pick up Ball this week for a nice matchup against San Diego in Week 15, where the carries are going to be closer to 60/40 in favor of Moreno, as they try and reduce the massive workload that he has shouldered. Patriots RBs vs MIA (Shane Vereen 80% Owned, Brandon Bolden 10% Owned, LeGarrette Blount 4.6%...

Week 14 Sleepers to Consider

Week 14 Sleepers to Consider

It’s playoff time for many of us, and we just need that one player to get us over the hump. Hopefully, I can share some Week 14 sleepers that can help you forge ahead. Some of us need to get our heads out of our rump. I played Danny Woodhead over Ben Tate last week — and it cost me high point total for the week. As I do every week, I will make a few suggestions that could be the difference between viewing fantasy stardom from afar, or being right in the middle of it. Before we get to the Week 14 sleepers, though, let’s see how last week’s group did. Ryan Fitzpatrick cooled off a little bit and got around 15 points for his owners. For those of you that sat Andrew Luck on the bench and ran Fitzpatrick out there, it definitely paid off. Chris Ogbonnaya had a rough week last week for the Browns. Seems the Browns are in love with Willis McGahee again and Ogbonnaya will just have to hope he can get his normal 3rd down reps. Rod Streater had three catches for 57 yards. Not terrible… But Andre Holmes came from nowhere and was targeted 11 times to Streater’s four.  The Streater train may be coming to the end of the line, especially with Denarius Moore coming back. Jacob Tamme just plain let me down. Julius Thomas took a seat for the Broncos once again and Tamme certainly seemed to be the guy. Instead, it was the Eric Decker show. (50+ points in ppr leagues) Wow. Time for this week’s picks!   Week 14 Sleepers Mike Glennon, QB, Tampa Bay Hear me out on this one. Glennon is coming off his worst performance of the year, by far. I can’t see him playing that poorly again. He’s going up against a Buffalo Bills team that is in the middle of the pack for defending QBs. The Bills get a lot of sacks, but that doesn’t hurt fantasy QBs in most leagues. I see a lot of third and longs for the Bucs and Glennon dropping back about 50 times. Watch out. Nate Burleson, WR, Lions After one target last week and zero...

Week 13 Fantasy Recap

Week 13 Fantasy Recap

After everyone gained 10 pounds Thursday we were given a good day of football. Here is a look back at the action from week 13 and some helpful notes for your playoff run.       Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions 12:30 pm Thursday This was a really ugly game for Green Bay. Matt Flynn disappointed a lot of people who tried using him as a spot start and he brought the rest of the Green Bay offense down with him. Eddie Lacy struggled against the stacked boxes as well as a good Lions run defense. The only receiver to do anything for the Packers was James Jones who caught 3 passes for 79 yards. If Matt Flynn starts again next week I wouldn’t rely on a Packer in the playoffs unless I was forced to. If they make the switch back to Scott Tolzien the receivers should get a bump in production specifically Jarrett Boykin. Many Reggie Bush owners were worried when he had an early red zone fumble but he came back from it for 182 total yards and added a touchdown and for the most part wasn’t used to run the clock down. Calvin Johnson and Matt Stafford had their typical days. Joique Bell performed well in relief with 128 total yards and a touchdown. He can’t be relied on in the fantasy playoffs unless Reggie Bush isn’t playing.   Oakland Raiders at Dallas Cowboys 4:30 pm Thursday Matt McGloin played well but wasn’t able to get the touchdowns to make his fantasy day great Rashad Jennings stole the show there. He didn’t do much else and was also dinged up during the game, which is something to keep an eye on. Andre Holmes stepped in and looked really good on some of his catches by making some nice plays while the ball was in the air he is someone to keep an eye on for keeper and dynasty leagues. If you are relying on him for the playoffs this week you would have to be in serious desperation. Tony Romo might be becoming a better real life quarterback than for fantasy. DeMarco Murray scored three short yardage touchdowns and as long as he is...

Another One Bites the Dust- Saying Goodbye to a Beloved Fantasy Team

Dec 03

Is This The End? There comes a time in every Fantasy Owners season when they realize everything comes to an end, and it’s time to say goodbye to their beloved fake  teams. For some, this moment can’t come soon enough. For example, the owner with the fifth pick in 2013 may have been giddy after leaving the draft with players such as C.J. Spiller, Tom Brady, Jared Cook, Dwayne Bowe, Cecil Shorts, and Maurice Jones Drew. (This was a real lineup by the way) Needless to say, by about Week 7 or so they knew they were done. I am hoping to help the owners who may have had their seasons end already, or that may lose this week in the playoffs cope.  So it goes, another one bites the dust. How Could This Happen to Me? So what happens when things just don’t go your way? When your team is simply better than its record shows and they narrowly miss the playoffs a few weeks early? Depends on the owner, I suppose. Heck there are some owners who are possibly even clueless that they have a fantasy team to manage, or may need to manage after week 13!  You know that guy or gal. They are busy little bees during the draft, and the first few weeks and then all of a sudden “poof” they are suddenly non-existent. Well, guess what? This is one of those years where you actually are BEHIND this owner in the playoff standings! Even though you are the owner who has everyone in their starting lineup in the top 10 in their positions, and some bench players in the top 15.  You are behind the guy who starts Peyton Manning and Jamaal Charles every week, but has a supporting cast of mediocre or disappointing players, essentially a patchwork team. You are also behind the guy who plays the teams at their season worst each week. You know this team, they are 8-5 and have the second to lowest point totals in the league, but they are in fifth place. They are the owners who had T.Y. Hilton in week 9. The same owners who play teams that average 95+ points the weeks when...
