2012 Top 60 Overall Fantasy Rankings

Generally, the top 60 overall Fantasy rankings should be a great guide to help you along your first few rounds. Some might want to stick to these rankings by the book, but my suggestion is that you look at them more in a fluid sense, and go off the position rankings more than just the top 60.

In other words, if you drafted Falcons WR Roddy White already, and the next best running back available is Falcons RB Michael Turner, then you’ll want to steer clear of doubling up a RB and WR from the same team – within the first few rounds of the draft. (Later in the draft, it’s perfectly acceptable to get a wide receiver from the same team as one of your running backs.)

Rankings Change Like the Wind

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson’s Fantasy value has dropped from second-round status down to fifth-round status in recent weeks.

Even though it’s the offseason, and very few things change in the world of Fantasy Football, you should be aware that some things DO change. Whether it’s my own personal view (dropping Marshawn Lynch a couple spots after taking part in a few mock drafts), or moving Adrian Peterson nearly out of the top four rounds altogether because his injury news has me worried.

So think about coming back weekly to see if I’ve made any changes recently. I’ll swap around the position rankings as well as these Top 60 Overall Fantasy Rankings.

Some other things that have changed include my opinion on where to draft both TE Rob Gronkowski and rookie RB Trent Richardson. I had previously claimed Gronk is not worth a second-round pick, but the slow decline of Turner and fast decline of Peterson made it necessary to move Gronk INTO the second round.

The same goes for the Browns rookie running back. Last month, I decided that Trent Richardson was barely a top 15 running back, but now I have moved him ahead of Turner and Steven Jackson, and I like him as a the best running back in Tier 3.

And yes, that’s not a typo, I do still have Ray Rice as my No. 1 overall pick, but faithful readers understand my 8 Reasons NOT to take Arian Foster First Overall.

Enjoy the top 60 overall Fantasy rankings, and happy drafting!

  • Are these rankings up to date? I don't see a date on this list and need to verify injuries etc from preseaon are factored in...

    • Chris Johnson is set for a big rebound season, and there are just a ton of bigger question marks after him (and Forte for that matter). These are not PPR rankings, but 10 yards in receiving still counts.

  • I like Forte, but I think Michael Bush will be stealing too many carries, especially around the goal line. Also, with Brandon Marshall there, the number of Bear rushing TDs is going down this year for Forte and/or Bush. I just can't see Forte being a 1st round pick. I would take McFadden before Forte.

    • Excellent points, for sure, but my concern is -- who do you put ahead of him that has fewer question marks? I just don't think you can rely on McFadden over Forte. He has 20 TOTAL touchdowns in his four-year career, mostly because of injuries. Granted, some of the reason for that is also because of Bush's presence in Oakland. McFadden is definitely bigger risk/reward.

  • In a ppt league where the first 6 catches don't count, what is you number one pick? Is it still rice?

  • You're not worried about Forte's OL or Bush? Also...why so low on the TE's - don't you like the pt differential between the top TE's vs the next level?

    • Kaush! Good questions!

While those are concerns, I still think he's such a good weapon on the ground and through the air. Also, there aren't enough backs without any questions to move ahead of him. And yeah, I don't like the TEs so much to pass on good-to-great RBs/WRs. Gronk won't come close to what he did last year, and there are just too many good TEs out there to consider one of them a first- or second-rounder, in my opinion. Thoughts? Where do you rank Gronk/Graham?

      • I think Gronk's #'s will come down, but I feel that Graham will not be a rookie, and is the best receiving option on a great passing offense, so he has a chance to the overall #2 WR/TE - and seperate himself like Calvin does vs other WR's. Still, there isn't much value in drafting a player off a possible career year.

Also, you have Lynch ranked much lower than other people - why?

        Thanks!

  • You would really take Mark Ingram, Shonne Greene or Daniel Thomas over Cedric Benson.....really? Top 60 players are every week starters. You could say all 4 aren't, but you got to ask yourself which of those are most likely to be? The way I'm seeing it, Ingram is not the starter, but even if he did have that label it wouldn't matter because Sproles and Pierre Thomas are capable backs who will be getting caries each and every week. Daniel Thomas is also not the starter and part of an inept offense of which I would only draft one player from. All S. Greene has done is disappoint, get injured, and disappoint more. Just imagine.....Every Sunday morning you will be making the conscious decision to start Shonne Greene. How miserable does that sound.

Over/Under 3 more rushing TD's for Greene compared to Tebow this season?

    • Thanks for the comment, Steve. I'm reluctant to think too highly of Benson just yet. Let's remember -- he was out of a job for most of the summer. If he comes out strong, I'll move him up. As for your O/U, I'd take the under, but I also like Tebow.

  • In a 10-team standard league, I have AJ Green, Harvin, Lloyd, and Maclin at WR. Would you drop any of these for Britt, who is a free agent?

Also, in a 12-team standard league, I have Julio, Hakeem Nicks, DHB, and Sidney Rice. Do you see Austin Collie as a better option than Rice? Now that he's returned, he may become Luck's go-to WR.

    Thanks!!

    • Hey Randy, I say you stand pat on both accounts. Britt could be great -- but the four you have are a SOLID group. No reason to toss "very good" away for a shot at "great/injured".

As for the other one, same answer, although Rice could be a player you dump if a superstar shines in Week 1 and you have a waiver shot at him. But Rice is still pretty good. Let someone else deal with "Collie's headaches" headache.

      • Thanks for your reply! If I can ask one more thing, in my 12-team league, I am very underwhelmed w/ my RBs beyond my first pick of McFadden. The flow of the draft made me go elsewhere early, so I ended up with Ridley, Tate, Hillis, Kevin Smith, and even threw in Alfred Morris in hopes of getting lucky somewhere along the way. But the Morris pick is really tying up a roster spot I could use elsewhere. Is he worth holding onto at this point? As usual, I'm not sure what to make of the Redskins backfield.
