Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds

Jake Locker, Week 2 QB Rankings

Before we get right into the Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds, I’d like to note; Marvin Jones should have been included in this column already. The reason he wasn’t is simple.

Personal attachment to Mohamed Sanu. After watching his nifty three-week stretch last season, where he scored 4 times and was pegged as a Sleeper heading into this season, I discredited Marvin Jones. Instead though, it has been Jones who has carved out his own role in the offense and leapfrogged Sanu as a receiving threat in the most important area of the field.

Detaching from our personal biases is an important Fantasy Football lesson. Unfortunately, for each time we stick with a guy and get burnt, it’ll in turn pay off just as often. Kenny Stills anyone? With all that being said, if we knew all the answers it wouldn’t be enjoyable.

You are having fun playing Fantasy Football right? Do you think Jones scores again next week, or will it be Tyler Eifert, Mohamed Sanu or A.J. Green’s turn to cash in?

Marvin Jones and Kenny Stills will be top Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds, so if you need a Wide Receiver target them if needed, but there are other options available.

You’re here for your Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds though, so on with the show.

Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds

QB Jake Locker, Tennessee Titans

Suddenly, there is a lot of optimism surrounding the Titans’ signal caller. Fresh off a Bye Week and a solid performance in his return to duty against the 49ers in Week 7. It was in Fantasy terms anyway, there is upside for Locker and the Titans as a whole heading forward. It is also no secret that their schedule is favorable from here on out.

However, the St. Louis Rams put up a huge effort Monday against a powerful Seahawks team, giving up little and throwing Russell Wilson down 7 times. Perhaps this particular matchup isn’t as comfy as first projected. In the end, Locker is a viable option as a low-end Fantasy QB and weekly starter in 2 QB formats.

QB Jason Campbell, Cleveland Browns

The journeyman backup proved he can play a safe and responsible game and even post respectable stats this past week, on the road in Arrowhead at that. Campbell might have the thirst to take this starting gig and run with it. His 2 scores and 293 passing yards, without a turnover are good signs he can lead the offense.

With play-makers Josh Gordan and Jordan Cameron there are capable options in the passing game. The Browns’ defense can create turnovers and shorten the field, making it that much easier for Campbell to cash in. Obviously, no one is looking forward to clicking ‘Submit Lineup’ with Campbell at QB, but fake points are fake points.

RB Shonn Greene, Tennessee Titans

Remember fake points are fake points, the Titans schedule is friendly going forward and Chris Johnson has been underwhelming, again. Greene might not be a weekly starter, but he should emerge as a viable option given his likely role as the Titans’ goal line back. Lendale White anyone?

Chris Johnson hasn’t received 20 rushing attempts since Week 2, so there are touches available when Greene returns and it isn’t like he wasn’t a useful Fantasy option in the past. Don’t expect weekly top 20 finishes among Running Backs, but 3 or 4 down the stretch are possible.

Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds

RB Montee Ball, Denver Broncos

I had little faith that Ball would be able to make a Fantasy splash this season and to this point he hasn’t. However, Ronnie Hillman cannot hang onto the football and Ball was the Running Back who got the goal line opportunity Sunday when the Br0ncos were trailing by 14.

Ball may never supplant Knowshon Moreno on the depth chart, but if he can get close to 15 touches and the goal line work, he’ll produce. If he is available in leagues, get out there and get him, Ball is a fresh back and perfectly suited to smash across the chalk in the Red Zone.

RB Andre Brown, New York Giants and Shane Vereen, New England Patriots

This is just a reminder on both, Brown claims to be ready to go and will at worst, split carries with the rest of the Giants’ Running Backs. Whereas Vereen isn’t able to play until next week, but he is back at practice and has shown his potential when healthy and given a chance thus far in his career.

I discussed both in the rapid fire section of this article last week too.

WR Nate Burleson, Detroit Lions

Reports indicate that Burleson will be ready to return in Week 10 after the Lions’ Bye Week. He is the 2nd best Wide Receiver on the team and ready to produce in a big way when it matters the most. If you have room to stash Burleson now is the time.

Obviously, there are risks of setbacks and rust, but with a buffer of a few weeks before crunch time and playoffs, adding Burelson could payoff. Burleson went good for 19 grabs and 239 yards before breaking his arm in a car accident. He has proven chemistry with Matt Stafford and knows the offense. The only issue with Burleson though, is he doesn’t score many touchdowns.

WR Tavon Austin, St. Louis Rams

The Rams are going to give this guy a chance in space eventually. Admittedly, Austin has had difficulty with the play-book, which has limited his success thus far. However, it was encouraging to see him on the field late in Monday night’s game and his big play potential keeps him a relevant Fantasy bench stash if things suddenly click.

It likely wont be difficult to acquire Austin and at this point of the season, if you can afford a roster spot, the upside is there to pluck a play-maker. It is a reach, but if his talent is given the opportunity to go on display, you could have an excellent addition to your roster. One big game and Austin is the craze of the weekly Waiver Wire columns.

Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds

DST Dallas Cowboys

There are two really important things at play here. Firstly, the Minnesota Vikings are on tap and have been a complete mess offensively all season. Secondly, the Cowboys have an incredibly favorable schedule going forward. Therefore, you could have a weekly defense most weeks from here out.

The Cowboys also have some play-makers on defense. They’re equally capable of causing turnovers and getting to the Quarterback. However, don’t confuse them with a shutdown unit, they give up plenty of points, so you’re relying on those big plays. Dwayne Harris is also quickly emerging as an explosive returner, so there is that weekly wildcard too.

Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds – Bye Week Quarterback Replacements

Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs: A reoccurring player here, Smith isn’t explosive, but he bounced back last week and the matchup is excellent. The Bills aren’t stopping anyone through the air.

Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds – Bye Week Tight End Replacements

Jared Cook, St. Louis Rams: Look for Cook to be involved heavily in the passing game going forward. Kellen Clemens is going to continue to check down frequently, which helps Cook’s stock.

Are there players that were left off of the Week 9 Waiver Wire Adds list? Who are you targeting? Thanks again to Jon Collins for helping out last week.
