10 Fantasy Draft Commandments

You’re likely getting ready for your draft this weekend or next, so these 10 Fantasy draft commandments should come at a perfect time for you.

A Fantasy draft is a wonderful thing. Don’t let it get the best of you. Enjoy it, take your time, don’t be rushed. Get there in plenty of time. If you’re bringing beer and food – get it ahead of time.

If you’re going to a restaurant, order stuff that you can eat cold, or while not getting your hands gross. A big Philly cheesesteak is probably a bad idea. You’ll be battling with that sandwich, dropping gooey cheese on your draft sheets, and forget to cross some players off.  Think nachos or club sandwich or boneless chicken wings you can eat with a fork. (I know, that’s crazy talk normally, but this is Draft Day!)

10 Fantasy Draft Commandments

Hopefully, these 10 Fantasy Draft Commandments will help you make it to the promised land – the playoffs! One thing these commandments will not tell you is to “Know Your League Settings.” The mere fact you are reading this article means you aren’t an idiot, so I won’t treat you like one and tell you to know your league settings.

Good luck this Fantasy drafting season!

I. Thou Shalt Draft 2 RBs in First 3 Picks

Do not be misled – running backs are still the biggest commodity.

II. Thou Shalt Wait on a QB

There are 13 start-worthy QBs this year, so load up elsewhere early on.

III. Thou Shalt Manage Risk

Taking one injury risk is enough – and don’t load up on prospects, gambles and bounce-back candidates.

IV. Thou Shalt Wait on Rookies

The past two years were anomalies – lean toward promising sophomores over over-hyped rookies.

V. Thou Shalt Draft a Handcuff

You may have to take your star RB’s backup a round earlier than his ADP; That’s just how it is. You need him more than anyone else in that draft.

VI. Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor’s Injury-Prone Stars

By trading for a buddy’s injured star, you’re alleviating him of a headache – and creating one for yourself.

VII. Thou Shalt Not Draft an RBBC

Drafting a handcuff is different, but don’t take up half of your RB corps with RBs from one team.

VIII. Thou Shalt Stick With a Plan

You’ve done all of this planning and reading for your draft, don’t get caught up in the moment.

IX. Thou Shalt Draft Plenty of RBs

As everyone sucks up QBs, WRs and TEs, just remember that your RBs will have better trade value in Week 2.

X. Thou Shalt Draft a Kicker Last

From the first kicker to the 12th kicker – not that big of a difference.
