There are few positions where more is expected in Fantasy Baseball play than first base. These 2013 Fantasy Baseball First Base Rankings are chock full of excellent power hitters, many of which are also able to hit for average and drive in runs.
In 2012, the first base position saw nine 30-home run hitters (two hit 40), with 12 hitting at least 25 homers. Seven players at the position knocked in 100 runs, and five of those hit .285 or better.
In 2011, there weren’t any 40-HR hitters, but eight hit 30 and a whopping 15 hit 25 homers or more. Seven had 100 RBI, and, again, five of those hit .285 or better.
And finally, in 2010, Albert Pujols was the only 40-homer hitter, with 10 first basemen hitting 30 homers, and 16 with 25 or more. There were 10 players with 100 or more RBI, and of that group, five of them hit .285 or more.
What’s your point, Gonos?
My point is – despite having a lot of power at this position, with some very talented players, the position has seen a dip in recent years.
Pujols is no longer a blind No. 1 overall pick. Injuries hindered Ryan Howard, who is actually two months older than Pujols. And Mark Teixeira, also hampered by injuries, had his worst season since his rookie year in 2003. Same for Adrian Gonzalez.
The good news – there’s a youth injection happening at this position, slowly, but surely, and most of the injured guys are now healthy and ready for a rebound.
There are a few changes you’ll want to track, like:
Whoever mans your first base position on your team should be a very productive hitter. You can’t afford swinging and missing at this position. Hopefully, our 2013 Fantasy Baseball First Base Rankings help you hit a homer … or 40.

Great job here David, I dig the site and will be following you this year. Good luck!
Craig with a full plate of at bats could be top 3-4 after this season. Teixeira dropping out of top 10 I think. Love Goldschmidt this year!
Ranking Butler 13th is laughable! Billy Butler was a top five 1B last year and he's entering his prime. Most of the players you ranked ahead of him had much worse seasons and they are leaving or have already left their prime. I sense some East or West coast bias here.
Haha, relax, conspiracy guy. He probably should get bumped up a few more spots. It's January, settle down. Thanks for the comment, though!
