The Fantasy Fatcast continues their midseason 2014 Mock Draft, looking ahead to what Round 2 might look like. Eric Mack of Bleacher Report and Brett Tresky, who now has over 2,000 Twitter followers, join me, SI.com’s David Gonos, to talk some Fantasy Football before Week 11!
We also discuss the Perfect Lineup game at DraftDay.com, with each of us picking who we think will end up with the best weeks at each position. The way that game works is – you play for free, pick a lineup with no salary restrictions, and then you win $1 million if you pick the perfect lineup! It’s wicked easy.
I also discuss the state of my Buccaneers, and what I think will happen in the coming weeks, as well as next season. (Spoiler alert: Doug Martin could be an AWESOME second-round pick next year.)
We also answer Fantasy lineup and trade questions from a good half-dozen callers, including “Dave” again, who has become a welcome repeat caller.
That guy’s name is cool.
Finally, we discuss each and every matchup for this coming weekend, as Emack shares some advice on who to start each week, and I cite some great stats you’ll find useful in the coming games. Rather than just go through a stat read or go through every name of every player you should start or sit, we think this is the most interesting way to do it, as you get a mix of stats and opinions.
Both Emack and I write Start/Sit columns on our respective sites, where you can get a more detailed version of what we think each week. My column posts midday on Thursdays, and I believe Emack’s article goes up on Wednesday.
First, let’s discuss the first round of this 2014 Fantasy mock draft, which we held during our Week 10 Fantasy Fatcast, which you can listen to here.
The picks in the first round, went like this:
1. Jamaal Charles, RB, Kansas City
2. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota
3. LeSean McCoy, RB, Philadelphia
4. Matt Forte, RB, Chicago
5. Reggie Bush, RB, Detroit
6. Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit
7. Marshawn Lynch, RB, Seattle
8. A.J. Green, WR, Cincinnati
9. Alfred Morris, RB, Washington
10. Peyton Manning, QB, Denver
11. Dez Bryant, WR, Dallas
12. Eddie Lacy, RB, Green Bay
So now, we look ahead into the second round of this 2014 Fantasy mock draft, and some things don’t change – like running backs are still valuable.
The first four picks of the second round are running backs! As a matter of fact, six running backs were picked in the second round, and 14 players out of the first 24 picks were running backs, which is a little like what most Fantasy drafts have been like in recent years.
Emack starts off the second round by picking DeMarco Murray, but a few picks in, he begins to regret that choice. I had already said I’d like to swap my Forte and Lynch picks in the first round, so I’ll allow him to also want to swap his second-round picks. (We won’t swap it, but I’ll allow him to want to.)
There were also some interesting picks of players that were first-round picks this season, but we expect to bounce back next year. The sting of a C.J. Spiller stinker season would be much less as a second-round pick than it was as a first-round pick. Let us know what you think of the second round!
Tell us what you think of our podcast – we’re planning on doing this year round, and we’d love some constructive criticism, or just some plain old complaints. We want to make this a weekly stop for you, and would love to read your input. Feel free to chime in on what you think about the 2014 Fantasy mock draft, too!
