Fantasy Football 2015 Tight End Rankings: Top 30 TEs

We’ve already covered the entrees on the Fantasy Football menu, sharing my 2015 Fantasy Football rankings for quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers, and now it’s time to dig into some of the side dishes, like the 2015 Tight End rankings!

First, we’re going to take a quick look back at last season’s numbers at the tight end position compared to previous seasons.

Then, we’ll tackle some of the offseason news and notes that affect our 2015 rankings at the position. This should not only share my perspective on why I ranked some guys higher and some lower, but it should also help you figure out how you want to rank tight ends this season.

What Can We Learn From Last Year

Let’s look at some of the major stories that unfolded from last summer to now, and decide how it affects our tight ends rankings going forward.

Gronk Puts Together a Mega Year After a Tough Summer: There are people drafting Gronk in the first round of many Fantasy Football drafts, and I’ve even seen some websites rank him as a top-three overall pick. That’s too rich for my blood – remember that he has missed 15 games over the past three seasons. He loses Tom Brady to a four-game suspension, but I don’t think that he’ll have too much trouble with QB Jimmy Garoppolo throwing to him. I’m more concerned about his week-to-week durability.

Jimmy Graham Heads to the Great Northwest: In one of the biggest stunners of an NFL offseason full of stunners, the Saints traded Graham to the Seahawks. Instead of Drew Brees’ heavy passing offense, he’ll now be in Russell Wilson’s balanced attack that leans more on Marshawn Lynch than anything else. Luckily, Graham is still so good he can take a hit like this to his value and still rank second at the position. This helps Russell Wilson more than anyone else in Fantasy.

Zach Ertz Ready to Step Up in Philly: The Eagles lost LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin this offseason, so Ertz is my guy to pick up a lot of those targets. The Eagles traded Nick Foles for Sam Bradford, which should be a major improvement – if he can stay healthy for more than one game.

Travis Kelce Pairs Well With Maclin: You’ll see others rank Kelce higher than myself, but don’t take that as a knock from me. I just don’t think he’ll blow up much more than his consistent numbers from late last season, when he was the fourth-best tight end in the league.

Is Maxx Williams Going to Be Huge?: During some summer mock drafts, Williams was a big hit with many Fantasy owners because the Ravens lost Owen Daniels and Marc Trestman will be their offensive coordinator in 2015. Trestman turned Martellus Bennett into a stud – but Bennett was a seasoned veteran by that point – on his third NFL team. No rookie has turned in top-12 points among tight ends since Gronk’s freshman year in 2010.

Jared Cook — Sleeper City?: I like Cook more than others, primarily because his Fantasy Strength of Schedule is the best in the league for tight ends. But I also like the fact he’ll have a healthy quarterback for the entire year, and he’s probably one of their best pass catchers.
