One quarter into the season, we find ourselves looking at plenty of star wide receivers limping around, dealing with tough injuries, which makes us deal with a difficult set of Week 5 WR rankings.
Are you ready to make some tough decisions?
Both Brandon Marshall and Calvin Johnson have been used as decoys recently, and that’s the worst thing in the world for a Fantasy Football owner. Either they play not as a decoy and get you points, or you want them to sit if they’re injured, so you can get a replacement in there from your bench. Being a decoy is just an injured guy taking up a slot on your team and not getting any passes thrown to him.
Bengals WR Marvin Jones finally comes back from a broken foot – and sprains his ankle in practice. If you got him off of the waiver wire, you’ll want to keep him reserved one more time.
Marshall (ankle) is practicing now, and Chicago is expected to play him a lot this week. He’s one of those guys you just have to throw out there each week if the Bears are going to, also.
Andre Johnson is also hobbling around on a bad ankle. He’s averaging five catches per game for 65.6 yards – and he still hasn’t caught a touchdown pass in 2014. The ascension of DeAndre Hopkins might be hurting him more than the ankle!
Ankles seem to be the injury of the week, as Julio Jones is also dealing with a bum ankle. He’s limited in practice, but it looks like the Falcons are just being cautious.
Dez Bryant (shoulder) has had issues the past couple weeks, but he should be good for Sunday – healthier than he has been in a while. The problem is, much like his teammate DeMarco Murray, he’s a physical player that depends on contact in some situations. That shoulder injury could get worse at any moment.
Michael Crabtree’s foot scared us last week, but he has been practicing in full, so there shouldn’t be an issue in Week 5.
Jets WR Eric Decker has a hamstring injury – ahhhh, finally! A hamstring! While he has been decent this year as a WR3/Flex option, I’d consider sitting him in Week 5 at San Diego.
