2016 Fantasy Kicker Rankings: Better Veterans

When you start looking deeper into the 2016 Fantasy Kicker Rankings, you realize the usual suspects over the past few years are still making appearances.

And really, as the last round in your draft comes closer and closer, you should really try to think about drafting a “usual suspect,” like Justin Tucker, over some possibly rising kickers, like Brandon McManus, Cairo Santos or even the legendary Roberto Aguayo! (OK, so that last one wasn’t a tough one.)

Just look at the top 10 kickers in my rankings – four of them are over 30 years old – and just two are under 26 years old. That’s not quite the case at other Fantasy position rankings, other than quarterbacks.

So stick with a veteran – unless you have one of the very last picks in the draft, then consider rolling the dice on a younger kicker with upside, like Josh Lambo or Dustin Hopkins. If they stink it up in the first few weeks, you can just cut them for a veteran like Josh Brown or Mike Nugent.

Extra-Long Extra Points

Earlier this month, I wrote an article over at SoCalledFantasyExperts.com about the 2016 Fantasy Football Kicker Rankings, where I discussed the effect of last year’s extra-long extra points.

There were 71 missed PATs in 2015, compared to just 37 combined missed extra points from 2010 to 2014. This was the lowest conversion percentage in the NFL since 1982, but that was also the year the NFL players held a 57-day long strike, which shortened the season to just nine games, and obviously affected kickers greatly!

In the end, this new NFL rule just further strengthened your resolve to wait until the end of your Fantasy draft to pick a kicker.

These rankings are based on standard non-PPR leagues, which truly don’t matter when you’re talking about kicker rankings!

Knowing you should wait until the very last (or possibly second-to-last) round to draft your placekicker is one thing, but using our 2016 Fantasy Kicker Rankings to know which kicker to take is another.
