Depending on how many players you’re allowed to keep in your league, you might be considering these 2013 Fantasy Tight End keeper rankings a little harder. (I already took a look at the QB Keepers, RB Keepers and WR Keepers.)
In general, if you are only allowed two or three keepers, then unless you have Jimmy Graham or Rob Gronkowski, you’re likely not considering a tight end among your keeper group.
But, if you’re able to keep five players, then you might dip a little deeper.
Another reason you might consider holding over a tight end is if you are in what’s called a “limited keeper league.” Basically, that’s a league that only allows holdovers drafted after a certain round. And even then, you might need to target running backs and wide receivers that are a little less valuable this season, but with much bigger upside than, say, a Vernon Davis.
With that said, the tight end position has been completely overhauled in recent years, starting with guys like Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez. This position is scoring way more Fantasy points than ever before, which means the position is much deeper. Granted, Gates and Gonzo are in the twilight of their careers, but that doesn’t mean we’ll see a points shortage at the position.
After the young studs, like Graham and Gronk, there are plenty of good, young tight ends that are making a splash. Guys like Dwayne Allen, Tyler Eifert, Coby Fleener, Brandon Myers, Dennis Pitta and Kyle Rudolph, make this a very deep keeper group.
